On Santiago´s Day, celebrated on 25 July, Valença invites residents, visitors and pilgrims to mark one of the most important dates of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago with a programme dedicated to culture, tradition and the spirit of the pilgrimage.
Highlights include the cutting of a commemorative cake shaped like the largest Camino arrow, the “Safe Camino” awareness campaign promoted by the Portuguese National Republican Guard (GNR), and the presentation of the book “Nunca Pares” (“Never Stop”) by Emanuel Mendes, inspired by the experiences and values of the Camino.
A special celebration that reinforces Valença’s historic connection to the Camino de Santiago and pays tribute to everyone who walks this centuries-old pilgrimage route.
Noites no Santo returns to Largo de São Teotónio, in Ganfei, for two evenings celebrating gastronomy, music and community. On 31 July and 1 August, local associations will once again bring the square to life with traditional food, local flavours and a welcoming atmosphere for all.
Entertainment begins from 7:00 pm. On 31 July, enjoy performances by Grupo de Cordas 6Tàs9 and the duo Notas Soltas. On 1 August, the programme continues with Desfados and Sávio Pinho, promising two memorable nights filled with music, tradition and great company.

The Cultural Association of Verdoejo celebrates its 42nd anniversary with a weekend dedicated to culture, music and theatre, inviting the whole community to take part in this special occasion.
The celebrations begin on 17 July with the theatre performance “Um Amor de Predição”, presented by Grupo de Teatro Vez (GTV). On 19 July, the programme continues with performances by the Verdoejo Polyphonic Choir, the Rondalla de Trovadores de Ares (Galicia) and the Youth Philharmonic of the Valença Fortress Music Academy, bringing together Portuguese and Galician traditions in a celebration of culture and friendship.
The 29th Motinhas 2000 – 50cc Ride takes place on 12 July in the parish of Silva, bringing together enthusiasts of classic Portuguese mopeds for a day filled with camaraderie, tradition and scenic riding.
Starting from the Associação Silvense, the route includes a refreshment stop at Corno de Bico and lunch at Senhora da Encarnação, in Vila Nova de Cerveira. The “Dragons Visit Valença” initiative returns on 15 July for its 3rd edition, organised by the 6th Cavalry Regiment. This special event brings the community closer to military history and traditions, creating opportunities for social interaction, shared experiences and tribute across generations.
More than a celebration of memory and service, this initiative strengthens the connection between the Portuguese Army and the local community, highlighting the heritage, values and identity that are part of Valença’s history and the region’s legacy.
The (A) Tua Família – Challenge Edition programme returns to Valença with a series of activities designed to strengthen family bonds through fun, learning and shared experiences.
Throughout several sessions, families will be invited to take part in games, challenges and interactive activities that promote values such as tolerance, empathy, assertiveness, mental health awareness, gender equality and responsible digital consumption. An initiative that combines enjoyable family moments with practical tools for personal and family well-being.

From 27 July to 4 August, the village of Urgeira, in Valença, celebrates the traditional Festivities in Honour of Our Lady of Health (Nossa Senhora da Saúde), one of the most anticipated summer events in the parish.
The programme combines religious celebrations, live music and community gatherings. Throughout the festivities, visitors can enjoy novenas, processions, concertina performances, drumming groups, live entertainment and dance nights featuring a variety of artists and bands. On 12 July, Verdoejo begins the preparations for its festivities with the traditional Raising of the Festival Flag, a symbolic moment that officially marks the start of the celebrations in honour of Senhor dos Passos.

From 1 July to 1 September, the “Valença, Artes e Ofícios” exhibition room, located in Valença’s Tourism Office, will host the painting exhibition “Three Worlds, One Nature” by young Valencian artist Inês Gonçalves Eiras.
The exhibition features eight artworks inspired by the planet’s biodiversity, portraying animals from the sky, the sea and the land while highlighting the connection between different habitats and ecosystems. Through her artistic vision, the author invites visitors to reflect on the importance of protecting species and preserving nature, celebrating the richness and diversity of life on Earth.
On 5 July, at 3:00 PM, São Sebastião will host the 38th Festival of the São Julião Folklore and Cultural Group, celebrating the richness of Portuguese folk traditions.

On 8 July, the Cortinas de São Francisco, within the Walls of Valença, will host the “Symphonic Rock Concert 80/90”, a production by the Academy of Music of the Valença Fortress that promises a memorable evening of music and emotion. Starting at 9:30 pm, the concert combines the energy of rock with the grandeur of a symphony orchestra, featuring reinterpretations of classics by iconic bands and artists such as Queen, The Beatles, Scorpions, Metallica, GNR, Xutos & Pontapés and Rui Veloso. On stage will be the Symphony Orchestra, the rock band Fora da Pauta, choirs and soloists, bringing together around 220 participants in a performance that spans generations and celebrates live music.
From 16 to 19 July, Valença and Tui once again come together for another edition of IKFEM – Tui-Valença Festival, one of the region’s most renowned cross-border cultural festivals. With a diverse programme that combines music, art and contemporary culture, the event promotes the meeting of different artistic expressions while strengthening the connection between Portugal and Spain. A celebration of creativity and Euroregional identity in a unique setting between the two banks of the Minho River.
On 29 and 30 August, the Santa Rita Square, in Gondomil, will host another edition of Sabores do Anho Gondomil, a gastronomic festival dedicated to the most traditional flavours of Minho cuisine. The main highlight is the emblematic wood-fired roasted lamb with “arroz pingado”, prepared in traditional wood ovens and served in the old-fashioned way, preserving the authentic flavours of regional gastronomy. Alongside these typical specialties and regional wines, the event promises two days of social gathering, tradition and celebration of Valença’s gastronomic culture.

On 5 July, Valença and Tui will host the Eurocity Tui–Valença Pumptrack Grand Prix, a competition that promises excitement, speed and plenty of adrenaline on one of the Eurocity’s most iconic tracks. The event brings together athletes and enthusiasts of the sport for a day dedicated to competition and sporting spirit, promoting the practice of Pumptrack while strengthening the cross-border connection between the two territories. An initiative that combines sport, social interaction and dynamism in a unique setting.
On the 7th, 8th, 9th and 15th of August 2026, the Festas do Concelho de Valença will take place, one of the most important moments in the municipality’s cultural and festive calendar. Over several days, the city comes alive with music, tradition, folklore, gastronomy, and entertainment, celebrating the identity and culture of Valença.
The programme will include concerts, performances, cultural activities, street entertainment, and initiatives for all ages, involving local associations, cultural groups, and the wider community. The festivities are known for their welcoming atmosphere and strong public participation, attracting thousands of visitors to the fortress town.
Blending tradition and modernity, the Festas do Concelho stand out as a major celebration of Valença’s culture, roots, and festive spirit.
From 11th to 13th September 2026, Valença will host the 12th edition of the Eurocity Valença–Tui Tournament, one of the most important youth roller hockey competitions in the region. Organised by Valença Hóquei Clube, the tournament brings together teams from Portugal and Spain, promoting sport, friendship, and a spirit of cooperation between the two banks of the River Minho.
Over three days of competition, athletes from various age groups will compete in dozens of matches in an atmosphere of fair play, passion for roller hockey, and great enthusiasm from spectators and families alike. Year after year, the event has established itself as a meeting point for young talents in the sport, creating moments of sharing, friendship, and sporting development.
Integrated into the spirit of the Eurocity Valença–Tui, the tournament strengthens the ties between the two territories and contributes to the sporting and cultural dynamism of the region. Beyond the competitive side, the event is also recognised for its festive atmosphere and strong involvement of the local community.
The next edition of the 2 Léguas da Eurocidade already has a date!
Year after year, this event continues to grow… and in 2026 it reaches its 4th edition.

The Clube Caçadores “Os Torreenses” will organise the 3rd “Motas e Motinhas” Ride on 2 August 2026, an event dedicated to two-wheel enthusiasts, promising a day of socialising, entertainment and a scenic ride through the roads of Valença and the surrounding areas.
The gathering will take place at Campo da Cruz, in S. Pedro da Torre, from 8:00 am, with departure for the ride scheduled for 9:00 am. Registration costs 30 motas and includes refreshments, lunch, a souvenir gift, assistance and civil liability insurance throughout the entire route. Club members with membership fees up to date will also benefit from a €5 discount on registration.
Registrations are advance-only, mandatory and limited, and may be completed at the club bar from Monday to Friday between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, on match days, or via email at cc.ostorreenses@gmail.com. For further information, participants may contact 934564551.
